All research conducted on, or by Children’s Health Queensland must receive both ethical approval by a certified Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), and Site Specific Assessment approval before it can commence.
CHQ HREC reviews the ethical and scientific validity of proposed research within Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service, as well as some studies conducted in other Queensland Health Services, New South Wales, Victoria, Australia Capital Territory, South Australia and Western Australia.
Research governance is the process whereby institutions ensure that research conducted under their auspices are properly accounted and governed. The CHQ Research Governance Office reviews Site Specific Assessments for all of CHQ, including research at facilities run by CHQ and at all CHQ state wide services.
Biostatistics support is available to CHQ researchers via a contract CHQ maintains with QCIF Biostatistics.
Researchers can send biostats support requests to: biostats@qcif.edu.au.
Researchers are encouraged to let QCIF know that they are from CHQ. Service delivery timeframes depend on QCIF workload and the number and complexity of already received requests.
For more information or support, contact chq_grants@health.qld.gov.au.
The Queensland Health Data Dictionary (QHDD) is available as part of the Queensland Health Information Knowledgebase. The Portal is designed as a starting point for researchers and other data users who are not familiar with QH data, to help them explore the QHDD.
